The Red Shoes

The Red Shoes is a tale by Hans Christen Anderson which sees a young adoptive girl given the life of luxury by her wealthy adoptive mother. However the young girl, obsessed with wealth was dismissive of her adoptive mothers illness and then death and was preoccupied with her new red shoes. She then became a compulsive dancer from her dismissive actions. She the had to eventually cut her legs off.

For the opening title I went for a simple approach.  I decided to go with a mixed media style. My inspiration for this was the Canadian children's television series Angela Anaconda (As seen right). I have used photographic elements as seen in the legs and curtains and digital animation with the shoes, floorboards and backdrop. I also decided to have the shoes as Adidas high top sneakers for a more modern and urban audience.
The opening seen shows legs dancing. As the scenes change the backdrop changes from a light white through to grey then black. This will be transitional from white to black. As the feet dance, along with music this shows intensity and tries to evoke this from the audience.  As the feet continue to dance the curtain moves down  again instilling a climax is about to end. The final scene will show the legs falling to the floor with drops of blood dripping and the main title being present. This shows the jist of the story without giving away the plot in full.
