Advertisment
I really enjoyed doing this advertisement and finding different ways exploring this task. The pen tool is one that I am fairly familiar with and found this task less challenging. I really enjoyed working with the warp and smudge tool to create different looks.
I decided to focus on the vibrant orange colours rather than a rainbow of colours. I think the warped lights give the illusion of following orange juice which is what I wanted to interpret.

Student Evaluation
I have chosen to evaluate : http://swooningwiththerokebyvenus.blogspot.com/
Rubbish Font: http://swooningwiththerokebyvenus.blogspot.com/2011/03/slumming-it-with-venus.html
Is there sufficient difference between formal and informal design?
I feel this piece shows both sides of formal and informal design and the differences are very recognisable.
Formally I think the balance of the artwork works well having heavy text at the top forming a hierarchy. I also like the proportion of the metal plates underneath being symmetrical. In saying that the informal elements of having these metal plates that are symmetrical cut off and uneven is a nice change and enhances the look and feel of the artwork. It does not look to contrived, it looks as it was meant to be on the sidewalk.
Is the appropriate for informal design?Yes. There is similarity throughout the metal plates and closure seen in this design. This has worked effectively through the chewing gum writing as it is the focal point of the design.
Suggestions on how the ideas could be developed furtherI really, really like it how it is, I think the use of a single cigarette butt shows control and would not amend that by displaying anymore in the pieces. The colours work well together they show both ideas of monochrome colours paired with pastels, which makes the chewing gum pop. I have no ideas on how to develop this further as I really like it how it is. If I had to suggest something maybe using all monochrome colours to show a gritter side. Darker colours may blend well and become unnoticed therefore creating that trash appeal.

Is there sufficient difference between formal and informal design? This design shows many differences in both formal and informal design. Proportion is a formal element which has been done well in my eyes. The main image is centred and is the right size, composition wise it appears to have even space around it. The main title and sub title again show this. Informally it combines two different elements the main picture which appears to be from the Renaissance period. I feel the designer has matched this well with the repetitive print and gives, which helps to give that old worldly feel. This again matches with the theme '20 Tracks for the Early evening'.
Is the appropriate for informal design?Yes I believe it is, it combines a mixed medium and does it well. As stated above both these elements have contributed to the feel of the album cover and bringing it to life.
Suggestions on how the ideas could be developed furtherI really like the idea behind the CD. And the back cover which pairs the songs with types of wine. Its quite different. It uses different colours in sections on the back to accompany the wine name and give a sense of the wine. However I thought this was amateur looking and Incorporated to many colours which drove away from the flesh tone, dark wine tones used in the piece. Also I did not like the font it was a modern day handwriting style which would have been better to use an older type script to better convey that this was in fact at 16th century CD.

Is there sufficient difference between formal and informal design?
This design was my absolute favourite of the all the Paul Klee 'A line is a dot that went for a walk' tasks. This design showed many formal elements from its rhythm of the repetitive flowers, the dominance of the flowers in the garden and the unity this piece brought forth having all these joined elements create a stunning garden piece. Informally having all the elements from the garden flowers to vegetable joined up gave the illusion the pen never left the paper. This is also evident in the title being portrayed in the left corner. This is very informal to have that there but I feel it works.
Is the appropriate for informal design?Absolutelyy. The balance of the design is has no symmetry yet works perfectly.
Suggestions on how the ideas could be developed furtherI would have liked to see a splash of colour, perhaps something softer like watercolour or gauche brushes uses. Paul Klee is known for his wonderful and vibrant tones of gold and yellow paired with pastel greens and light pinks. Having this would have been a real tribute to the quote. But again this was a very interesting piece.

Paul Klee

This is my interpretation of Paul Klee's 'A line is a dot that went for a walk'. This is one of my favourite quotes as an aspiring visual artist.
Here I have used various paint brushes to convey a digital painting. I have used an earthy pastel palette which can be seen in alot of Paul Klee's works.
Above is a zoomed look at the way its was painted. As you can see blending of small dots make up this piece giving literal meaning to the quotation.

Design Brief ACM1009- We Come In Peace
Aim
This poster is designed to display cultural, technological and the diversity of human culture in today’s modern society. The main aim for this poster is to showcase all facets of human existence.
Benefits
The benefits that this poster provides to the target audience is a snapshot look into the life of human existence here on planet Earth. This poster will endeavour to showcase different sides of human life. The first area is cultural. The poster will display male and female bodies of different ethnicities. The ethnicities to be displayed will be humans from all continents show casing their different aspects different looks from hair to skin tones. This will be done to display that planet Earth is made up multicultural beings. Another element that will be included is the word “Hello”. This is the international greeting that unites all countries. This will be displayed in different languages and symbols to showcase again the Earth's diversity and multiculturalism .The next portrayl of human life that will be included is technology. Technology is ever changing and growing it is such an integral part of human life therefore needs to be included. Self-reliant equipment such as computers and apple products such as iphones and imacs will be on display. It is important to have these products in as they are part of everyday life. All these areas are important aspects to be added as it is the primary reason for creating this poster.
Target Audience
The target audience this poster is targeted at is any form of human life within our Milky Way, as this poster will be sent into space any alien form of life within our surrounding area. It will communicate information about human life in present time and will hopefully be a bridge of communication.
Site Structure
The Structure of the poster/ plaque will be simple. As it’s is going to be a source of communication for alien life form it should not be complicated and straight forward. That is why only 3 elements of modern human life have been chosen to be portrayed. The poster will keep to this format so it is not over whelming.
The first poster sent into space in 1972 saw a naked man and woman drawn in counter line. This poster will have a much more fuller look at Earth bound human life and will be a photograph. A photograph will be used as it shows human life in its truest form.
The photograph will have different ethnicities brought together, holding different forms of technology in the palms of their hands. Underneath them will be the word hello, within their native language.
Each person will be dressed in traditional native dress , hands out holing a form of communication they use in life. THIS SHOWS HOW WE AS HUMANS COMMUNICATE.

The Red Shoes
The Red Shoes is a tale by Hans Christen Anderson which sees a young adoptive girl given the life of luxury by her wealthy adoptive mother. However the young girl, obsessed with wealth was dismissive of her adoptive mothers illness and then death and was preoccupied with her new red shoes. She then became a compulsive dancer from her dismissive actions. She the had to eventually cut her legs off.
For the opening title I went for a simple approach. I decided to go with a mixed media style. My inspiration for this was the Canadian children's television series Angela Anaconda (As seen right). I have used photographic elements as seen in the legs and curtains and digital animation with the shoes, floorboards and backdrop. I also decided to have the shoes as Adidas high top sneakers for a more modern and urban audience. The opening seen shows legs dancing. As the scenes change the backdrop changes from a light white through to grey then black. This will be transitional from white to black. As the feet dance, along with music this shows intensity and tries to evoke this from the audience. As the feet continue to dance the curtain moves down again instilling a climax is about to end. The final scene will show the legs falling to the floor with drops of blood dripping and the main title being present. This shows the jist of the story without giving away the plot in full.

Social Conscience
This is an poster I have created for the RSPCA. I focused my energies on a fully animated piece which is fun and inviting. I feel it will engage both younger and older generations. The RSPCA's slogan is 'for all animals great and small'. I decided to take a literal approach as it is understandable for all viewers. Therefore I decided to create a poster that ranges from large animals like the elephant to the smallest, the butterfly.
The Poster, I feel displays their message clearly and precisely. The poster drawn up in photoshop shows the use of many photoshop elements. The animals were all hand drawn and coloured in with the piantbrush tool. The backdrop was a brush preset from a jungle graphic.
The logo that I designed for the RSPCA was a continuation and follow up piece in the same style of my original poster. In keeping with the theme and slogan 'for all animals great and small' I decided to use animal foots prints to convey the message and reiterate the work the the RSPCA does. I have used elephant, giraffe, horse, dog and chicken foot prints from largest to smallest. This was done via the pen , paintbrush, paint bucket tool. I also used stamps.
